So I only started playing the total war games from Rome 2 onwards and was super excited to get to go back to Rome 1 with updated visuals. However, the inability to play multiplayer campaign has entirely brick walled my enthusiasm. So I won't be buy that.
In many YouTube videos on Total War Rome 2 Sieges (specifically multiplayer battles) the attackers often use siege weapons that they call "tortoises" which are large kind of battering rams that bring down walls. However, whenever I do a siege battle as an attacker in multiplayer, I never get the option to use it.

The base game + FLC represents a lot of content (14 factions total in Grand Campaign, plus Imperator Augustus has 10 playable factions in it.) So buying just that to play for now, with the possibility of buying some of the DLC in future sales is definitely a viable option. As for my Culture Pack recommendations:
Basically the way it works is you can play any playable faction from any Campaigns you own and any Culture Packs you own. When you're setting up a battle you choose which campaign you're fighting this battle in using the drop down menu (usually says Grand Campaign by default,) then pick the armies. e.g. TSWC.
